Modern Classic Discussions| Modern classic rock | | Is classic rock really mean that it is from back in the 60's 70's 80's or is ti actually a type of sound? I think its a type of sound. No band now has achieved this but if it was achieved would you think that it would be classified as classic rock. I think the closest band would be a band called airbourne. They sound a lot like AC/DC.
| | | My Name Is Khan...its a classic..whats your opinion.. | | Im just back from cinema after watching 'My Name Is Khan', and i have no other word to describe it than Classic..
It is a movie that can stand with the modern classic films like 'Rang De Basanti'..The film was very hyped and it not only matched up to the huge expectations but exceeded it in a huge margin..The movie is revolves around Rizvan Khan, who is a Asperger's Syndrome patient, its his journey to win back his wife's love..Movie depicts today's deep political and cultural issues of Terrorism and Muslim community..The movie is well shot..Cinematography is superb..Shah Rukh Khan is at his best..I dare say that this is his best movie of this career..Kajol has given a strong performance..and Hats off to Karan Johar for selecting a very good theme and making a movie that will be remembered for long, very long..In nut shell 'My Name Is Khan' is a touching, thrilling, sensitive and lovable movie..Has anybody seen it? whats your opinion??
| | The best work of fiction in recent times | | The Alchemist can be considered as the best work of fiction in recent times. One of the best selling books in history it is written by Portugese author Paulo Coelho. Hailed as a modern classic, it follows Santiago, an young shepheard in a journey to fulfill his personel legend. It urges everyone to follow their personel legend ie their dream on themselves, to believe in ourselves, to dream big, to have confidence. The story actually can be calledas a collecrtion of rich ideas, explained in asimple manner, in a brilliant type of narration. Don't miss it. | |
| | Corelli's Mandolin by Louis De Bernieres | | This remarkable book brilliantly captures both the horrors and idiocy of the Second World War without leaving the confines of the small Greek island of Cephalonia. De Bernieres obviously loves his characters, and consequently so does the reader. The book swings from rich humor to abject misery effectively, and the love story between Pelagia, a Greek woman, and Antonio, an officer of the Italian army that is occupying the island, is real and touching. Their love is an antidote to the barbarity closing in around them. The secondary characters also come to life, and Mussolini’s monologues, interspersed among the chapters, are a brilliant commentary on megalomania. The descriptions of life in the village on Cephalonia are both funny and moving, the battle scenes are horrifying, and the indecision of the Italian army's brass is so stupefying it still makes you angry sixty years later. I was surprised that the book went beyond the war years right up to the ‘90s, a touch I had mixed feelings about. But overall I thought the book a modern classic. Too bad the movie wasn’t up to the standards of the book; if you’ve seen the movie don’t be put off – this is a touching book you will... | |
